On a past Thanksgiving, I was assigned to shoot a heritage turkey farm in Lindsborg, KS. The scene may look like a crowded rush-hour train platform, but be assured that these turkeys were only in a protective area during a short transition before going free-range. I chose to photograph this moment because of the light and congregation of turkeys, to see their numbers. It was refreshing to see more humane methods at work – a far cry from enclosed factory turkey farms, even if their destiny would be the same this time of year…
